Lesson 1a -- World Book School Edition

I chose the Koala for my "mammal". The World Book Kids edition had this photo and just a little bit of information about the koala. It lives in trees, sleeps most of the day and is found in Australia.

While searching for information on the Koala through the World Book Student edition, I found so much more information! I learned more about the features of the Koala and that they used to be hunted for their furs. Also their population has declined because the trees, which are their habitat, have been cut down for housing developements or farmlands. There are also videos and maps to utilize!

Using the World Book Advanced edition, I searched for information on Australia. There is so much information available to patrons. On the left you can choose from E-books, historical maps, Encyclopedia articles and many other resources.

When I click on the "Australia" link, on the left side bar I am given many more search results such as the introduction about the country, people, ways of life and the economy.

When I search for an article using World Book Discover, I am given the option on the left side to change the text to another language. Also above there is a read-aloud tool. I think this is very important for those who do not speak clear English.

  1. Welcome to the Challenge, Hannah! I hope you will take a minute to look at Kids' special features: World of Animals, Compare Places, Maps & More, and Games & Activities. Those first 3 are features even adults can enjoy learning from!
