WorlCat

Discovery Exercise part 1

WorldCat is a great resource that we use to ILL items for patrons. We can almost always find what they are looking for and even more. Searching on WorldCat can be fun. There are many ways including the ISBN, OCLC number, author, title and subject.
When I search on WorldCat I usually set a limiter so it will narrow my search down quite a bit. When I search by title phrase Anne of Green Gables and set the limiter to books, there are 999 results and 644 of those are English. The first search result has 1155 libraries worldwide that owns that title. The top library that owns it is John Harris Elementary School in South Dakota.

The call number (class description) is LC:
PZ7.M768 Dewey:[Fic] When I click on the subject button above, it gives me the list of subject headings for Anne of Green Gables.

Discovery Exercise part 2

"OAIster" I am not sure I understood exactly what this was except that it is an internet resource. The directions were a little confusing, but with the help of a co-worker, we figured it out. Some of the records do not have an "access" link.

  1. Hi, Hannah, you know your WorldCat! Sorry we confused you with OAIster. Were you able to search and actually see a document or image? Let us know if you need help. Thanks for your comments.
